The labrador retriever dog breed is one of mine.
A rural province in Quebec called Labrador is also situated on the nation’s east coast. That it is frigid, has a terrible climate, and is mostly shut off from the rest of the world is therefore a given. Instead, fishing is a substantial industry and a major source of nourishment, and people live in harmony with nature.
Fisherman Alan Russell specializes in gathering crabs, one of the sea’s riches in the area. However, when he and Mallory Harrigan were out at sea with their boat one day, something very different from the crab they were used to was apparent. They would never forget the scene.
Everything began when they came across a large, mushroom-shaped iceberg.
Soon later, Alan and Mallory picked up on something strange about the mushroom-shaped iceberg. They initially thought it was a seal, Mallory said to The Dodo.
A closer inspection revealed that it wasn’t even a seal, but a polar fox, a four-legged creature that doesn’t ordinarily dwell in the ocean.
The fox’s whereabouts and the length of time it had been left there in the middle of nowhere, awaiting a tragic end, are unclear.
The pair, however, undoubtedly realized straight away that they needed to take something to help.
Unusual Rescue
Alan and Mallory, who had always been animal lovers, drove their boat toward the large iceberg and anchored it there.
Clearly distressed, the fox appeared scared of the guests.
Mallory remembered, “Even though he fought it, we were able to bring him onboard. We “knew we were his only chance for survival” since the winds had changed and were driving all the ice farther out to sea.
The polar fox’s mood quickly improved after leaving the iceberg. The fisherman immediately made him a tiny, comfortable “bed” on the boat.
The fox might have given up, but as soon as he was saved, his spirit immediately returned. They offered the shaking animal some canned food they had on board right away.
When they got to the harbor, they let him go. He simply shrugged it off and carried on.
Hopefully this fox won’t ever face a situation where his life is in danger again! Thanks to Mallory and Alan, this fox was saved and now has a future.
