Cathy Weed, a mother from Gwinnett County, sadly died after tripping over an ant mound in her yard.

Her demise shocked many since she was a cherished part of the community, a devoted mother who never missed one of her son’s baseball games, and a vital community pillar.

People who knew her paid homage to her on the baseball field where she saw her son Gray, a rising sophomore who played for the Mountain View High School Bears baseball team, play.

The mishap started when Cathy unwittingly trod on the ant hill. Sadly, she had a lethal allergy to fire ants, and she had barely had time to grab her medication before the reaction became too severe.

In 2018, Cathy experienced a similar occurrence, but she survived. She was sent to the ER despite having a negative reaction to an ant bite. She emphasized how important it was to have an EpiPen available back then in case someone developed an allergy to anything. It took place at a period when EpiPens were hard to come by. Years later, she tragically passed away from the same allergic reaction.

The uniqueness of Cathy’s personality was stressed in her obituary. According to one account, she was “a remarkable person who touched the lives of everyone she encountered.” She left an indelible impression on us with her warm smile, kind spirit, and unwavering compassion.

Jason Johnson, the team’s coach, described Cathy as a stunning woman who had a strong bond with her child. “To [Gary], his mother was everything, and to her, he was even more than that.”

We genuinely regret this terrible loss. We are sending prayers and thoughts to the grieving family.
