Do you recall Kathleen Turner?

Why do many of their equally attractive female co-stars fade from the spotlight after a few years while Hollywood’s handsome leading men remain on the A-List for decades?

What happened to Kathleen Turner, an actor who starred in Romancing the Stone and shared the screen alongside Steve Martin, Michael Douglas, and Jack Nicholson? What does she look like right now? Study more!

Kathleen Turner was born on June 19, 1954, in Springfield, Missouri, to devout Christians who discouraged her performing aspirations.

My father was a missionary, so acting and theater were only a step up from being a street performer, according to Turner.

Since her father was a member of the US Foreign Service, they spent time living in Canada, Cuba, and Venezuela. Kathleen moved away from her parents to pursue a career in theater at a high school in London.

When asked about her early years, Turner recalled that the “theatre mafia” consisted of seven people. “We selected the plays, produced, directed, acted, fired one teacher, and hired another.”

After Kathleen’s father passed away at the age of 17, her family relocated to Springfield, Missouri.

She volunteered at a nearby Planned Parenthood and was inspired to become a lifetime supporter of women’s rights and access to healthcare. She collaborates with the Board of Advocates for Planned Parenthood, Child Help USA, and City Meals On Wheels in New York City.

Turner was stumbled upon by Herbert Blau of Southwest Missouri State University. He pushed her to attend Maryland, where she graduated with a BFA.

Turner gained notoriety in Hollywood after his breakthrough performance in The Doctors and his outstanding turn in the thriller Body Heat in 1981.

After Body Heat’s success, Turner starred in The Man with Two Brains and Romancing the Stone. Turner, DeVito, and Douglas were reunited in the films Battle of the Roses and Jewel of the Nile.

Turner received the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her roles in Romancing the Stone (1984) and Prizzi’s Honor (1985).

Roger Ebert wrote about Prizzi’s Honor in 1985, “This is the craziest comedy in many a month, a movie so dark, so cynical, and so amusing that perhaps only Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner could have kept straight faces during the love scenes.”

Turner is a seductive mob killer who collaborates with New York City hitman Charley Partanna, played by Jack Nicholson.

According to Turner, “Prizzi’s Honor reinforced the perception of me as a cunning lady, although I must admit there are times in Prizzi when my character is just this newlywed who has a job but is making casseroles-that I appreciate.”

She said, “My spouse and friends assure me it’s out there.” I have very few questions.

The next year, Turner starred in Peggy Sue Got Married as Peggy Sue, a time-traveling student who goes back to her 1960s school days.

In 2018, Turner remarked: “The environment was quite unwelcoming to women. the disdain, the sensation of being a prop.

From the middle of the 1980s, Turner has had a fantastic career in theater, but she might never again receive accolades.

Her second significant stage performance earned Turner the 1990 Tony Award for her portrayal of Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She received the Outstanding Broadway Debut Award from Theatre World for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Turner was followed by indiscretions, The Graduate, and Tallulah.

She spent three years portraying Martha in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? The actor received another Tony for this part.

Elizabeth Taylor played Martha in the 1966 movie version of this play, which Turner found objectionable. She said about the Hollywood legend in an interview with Vulture from 2018: “For a while I felt like half my existence was making her wrongs right… Take note of her voice. It’s terrible.

She said, “She wasn’t very skilled.”

But for the love of God, I was fortunate to perform the piece and showcase the comedy personally.

Following her breakthrough onstage, Turner made appearances in Undercover Blues, The Virgin Suicides, and Beautiful.

The Framer Her gravelly voice was heard as Jessica Rabbit in the 1988 film Roger Rabbit. She portrayed Charles Bing, the drag queen father of Chandler Bing, in Friends.

Turner admitted to Vulture that she had a hard time adjusting to the snobby cast of Friends.

Turner remarked about the cast, “I’ll be honest, which is my wont: I didn’t feel really welcomed by them. “I can still feel the pain from my high heels as I wore this tough sequined gown. It struck me as odd that no actors offered to seat me.

She recalled that eventually one of the more senior crew members ordered, “Bring Miss Turner a chair.” The Friends cast was such a clique, but I don’t believe my interactions with them were particularly unusual.

In the 1990s, Kathleen Turner experienced “inexplicable pains and fevers” due to rheumatoid arthritis.

By 1994, she needed assistance standing up. Turner used biotech medication and gymnastics to treat her rheumatoid arthritis.

About her 2002 rheumatoid arthritis awareness campaign, she remarked, “The year before I was diagnosed was really frightening.” I didn’t comprehend.

She said, “I didn’t know why there was so much pain and why I felt so sick. “I’m interested in this campaign because I want others to realize they can learn more, manage this illness, and stand up for their lives and way of life. Help is accessible.

Although though Turner’s situation was frequently distressing, especially in the headlines, she persisted despite it.

After being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 1992, she told The Guardian in 2018 that she disregarded the doctor who told her she would need a wheelchair for the rest of her life. I won’t overstate the struggle against the never-ending suffering and anguish of who I had become.

She remarked, “I had to conceal my illness for years. Being called a drunk and having my appearance ridiculed was awful. Robert Downey Jr. was employed by studios despite his alcoholism. If I disclosed that I had an uncontrolled condition, nobody would approach me.

In 2007, Kathleen Turner and real estate mogul Jay Weiss got divorced.

The 66-year-old Jessica Rabbit actor says it doesn’t irritate him that, nearly four decades after [Body Heat], he is still referred to as a sexual icon. I long ago overcame that.

At NYU, Turner instructs Practical Acting.

In 2020, she admitted to Shondaland, “I love teaching. I can clearly describe it.

She remarked, “I’m hard on them and I don’t take amateurs—only people with a certain amount of competence.” Otherwise, I wouldn’t be useful.

We hope Kathleen Turner enjoys a long career in the public eye.
