Dr. Phil won’t be back.
After the current 2022–2023 season, Dr. Phil McGraw’s long-running daytime talk show will end.
After signing his most current contract with CBS Media Ventures in 2018, which had a five-year expiration date, McGraw is leaving the program. For the upcoming 2023–2024 season, the syndication corporation is anticipated to offer networks the option of showing previously recorded programming.
“I have been blessed with over 25 amazing years in daytime television,” McGraw said in a statement to PEOPLE. We have assisted tens of thousands of visitors and millions of viewers with problems related to mental health, parenting, addiction, and marriage through our show. Despite the amazing period of my life and work that has just ended, there is still so much I want to do.
CBS Media Ventures claims that McGraw will soon reveal information on a “strategic primetime arrangement” that will enable him to “raise his impact on television and audiences.”
The debut of the project is anticipated for the following year.
In his closing remarks, McGraw stated, “I have serious worries about the American family. “I’m committed to assisting in the restoration of both our core principles and a sense of purpose. I’m inspired to interact with more people.
According to CBS sources who spoke to Variety, McGraw has apparently been concentrating on producing narrative projects and hosting two podcasts called Mystery & Murder: Analysis by Dr. Phil and Phil in the Blanks.
When McGraw frequently appeared as a guest expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the 1990s, his career in television really took off. In the second half of 2002, he debuted his own show. He presided over almost 4,000 lectures with 20,000 attendees and 5 million communications from viewers.
Dr. Phil remains the second-most watched talk program with an average audience of 2 million viewers per episode. Live with Kelly and Ryan is currently the top show, according to Variety.
The head of CBS Media Ventures, Steve LoCascio, applauded McGraw’s choice, saying, “Phil is a treasured partner and member of the CBS/King World family, and while his show may be ending after 21 years, I’m delighted to announce our connection is not.”
“Phil changed the everyday scene as the inspiration for one of the most popular talk shows on daytime television,” the speaker added. We are enthusiastic about any potential future collaborations and plan to continue working with the library and Dr. Phil for many years to come.
The Wendy Williams Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dr. Oz, and The Real are among the other daytime talk shows that have been canceled at the same time as McGraw’s departure.
