Many were startled when Simon Cowell, 63, was more restrained than normal during season 18 of American Idol because of his reputation for having a sharp tongue and delivering insightful remarks.
Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mandel were talking about auditions while Simon remained silent, but not out of boredom.
Due to an interview he did, Simon hasn’t spoken much on American Idol season 18 due to a medical concern.
He claimed, “I believe what occurred was that my voice chords were damaged by stomach acid. The doctor came over and inserted a camera up my nose and down my throat so I could see how badly burnt my nose and throat were.
He said, “I really couldn’t talk because I wanted to say so much.” “We worked hard to write. I once kept a record of things I’d spoken in the past on an iPad tablet. I attempted to translate using Sofia, but she purposefully uttered the incorrect stuff. So, there was anarchy.
Simon mentioned during the auditions that becoming mute for a week gave him fresh perspective.
I was forced to be quiet for almost seven days, and could do nothing except listen.
And it was thrilling because everybody had gained the self-assurance to voice their choices. As a result, we disagreed more this year, but in a good manner. Due to the range of performers, you cannot assess this show while being an expert in everything.
In May, Simon talked about how a slew of health issues, including two bike accidents, had lately affected his life.
On The Today Show, he added, “I was so unfit before the accident, so it was unpleasant and not ideal. And I didn’t understand how unfit I was until I had to do all the stuff afterwards.
I then said, “My God!” Simon said, “Things like that, I believe, happen for a reason,” and he made it clear he had no plans to stop riding his bike anytime soon.
I’m still going to stay on my bike, I’m fascinated with these things, he stated, much to the amusement of his co-stars.
