As the film industry grieves for Kirstie Alley, her friends and colleagues—many of whom she shared a long and successful career with—have started to share their memories of the late actress. The former Cheers actor, who was 71 years old, passed away on Monday following a battle with colon cancer, according to her family.
Cheers co-stars Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, and Kelsey Grammer each discussed Alley on Monday. Grammer states in his statement that he “loved her,” in spite of his opinion that regretting the departure of a famous person is a “private concern.”
Danson claims that while rewatching a Cheers episode in which Alley repeatedly refused to wed Don Santry (Tom Berenger), despite having her heart set on it, he learnt of her passing.
In this scene, Danson portrays Don Santry. Alley performs “excellently,” according to Danson.
Danson recalls the incident from 30 years ago when she recorded it on camera, saying, “She made me laugh, and she made me laugh just as hard today.” Her ability to portray a woman on the point of a mental collapse was both devastating and brilliantly humorous, a critic said of one of her performances.
“Until I was about to leave the plane, I was unaware of Kirstie’s passing. Even though I am devastated by her loss, I will always be appreciative of the many times she made me laugh. I have the utmost affection for her kids. They are aware of their mother’s big heart and virginity. When she leaves, she will be sadly missed.
Kirstie was “a one-of-a-kind individual who was also a tremendous friend,” in Perlman’s memory. She radiated boundless joy. Soon after she started working at Cheers, we grew close. She was just as committed to my kids as they were to her.
When we spent the night at her place, she created treasure hunts for us to participate in. She lavishly organized holiday gatherings for the whole cast and staff of the program, as well as their families, on Halloween and Easter. She wanted everyone to feel like they belonged. She had a strong bond with her kids. She is very different from anyone I’ve ever met. I consider it a great blessing that I got to meet her. I’ll honestly miss having her around.
Some of Alley’s mourners posted condolences and memories on social media when she passed away. Steve Guttenberg, Kirstie Alley’s “It Takes Two” co-star, commended the actress for being approachable in a post on Instagram. After co-starring with Kirstie Alley in the 1997 film For Richer or Poorer, Tim Allen tweeted his “prayers” to the actress’s family. He recalled that Alley, who was aware of his preference for that cuisine, had brought him a tuna fish sandwich on rye to set. It was said of Alley that she had a “beautiful sweet spirit.”
The world “seems a little less full” without Kirstie, according to Guttenberg, who said that she “impressed me every day with her offering of the tangible and with her soulfulness.”
John Travolta, who featured alongside Alley in the 1989 movie Look Who’s Talking, paid tribute to the late actor in an Instagram post. Travolta described their bond in the piece as one of his deepest friendships ever.
I have no doubt that we will run into one other again, says Travolta. I’m sure that I love you a lot, Kirstie. Sharon Stone expressed her sorrow over Alley’s passing and described her as “really funny and beautiful.”
Jamie Lee Curtis and Alley co-starred in the slasher film Scream Queens. On Instagram, Jamie Lee Curtis paid tribute to Alley, calling her a “great comedy foil” while she was in front of the camera and a “loving mom bear” in the background. Alley apparently assisted Curtis when she went onesie shopping for her entire family during one of the holidays.
Curtis comes to the conclusion that despite their frequent disagreements, they respected one another. It’s regrettable.
In addition, Jackeé Harry showed her respect for Alley’s legacy by publishing a note next to a tweet Alley had previously sent out declaring her unwavering love for Jackeé Harry.
“She was a tremendous talent who made many people happy, both on screen and with her lovely and amusing spirit,” Harry adds of Kirstie Alley. Whether or not you agreed with her views, Kirstie Alley was a fantastic talent who brought joy to a lot of people. Have peace and love. You were unquestionably extraordinary in every way.
