On December 31, the sports world was surprised by the news of the death of 32-year-old Olympian Melissa Hoskins.
During her brief life, Hoskins achieved recognition as one of the top bikers globally. At 23 years old, only six years after she began riding competitively, Hoskins participated in and won medals in many world championships and placed fourth in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
She proceeded to win the World Championships in 2015 before also participating in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
In 2018, two years later, Hoskins was married to her husband, Rohan Dennis, who is also an Olympian and cyclist. Over the past five years, the couple had two children.
Now, according to a tweet from the Australian Olympic Committee, Hoskins is said to have died on December 30, 2023. According to People, her spouse has been taken into custody in relation to her unexpected death.
As per the Guardian, it is said that Hoskins was involved in a vehicle accident in Adelaide on Saturday. She was quickly taken to a neighboring hospital with serious injuries but subsequently passed away at the hospital.
Currently, Dennis is being charged with the offenses of causing death by reckless driving, driving without due care, and endangering life. The reason of the accident remains uncertain, as are other specifics of the case. It is said that both Melissa and Rohan have retired from the sport.
Rohan’s most recent Instagram post was on Christmas Day. He posted a picture of himself, Melissa, and their two kids in front of their Christmas tree.
