Joanna Gaines is recuperating at home following an unplanned back surgery.
The 44-year-old Magnolia Network personality revealed on Thursday that she had undergone surgery just two weeks prior to repair a serious back ailment. On Instagram, she posted a raw picture of herself giving the peace sign while in the hospital’s bed, followed by a hug with her 4-year-old son Crew.
She posted on Instagram, captioning the image, “I’ve been dealing with my back injury since high school cheering, basically a basket toss turned into back injury.”
Soon after she began dating her husband Chip in 2001, she had a microdiscectomy, which required her to postpone their second date. She stated that the identical procedure was performed “two weeks earlier on another disc.”
Since my back acts up at the most inopportune times, as I’ve often jokingly stated, the timing of everything around the holidays was a bit concerning.
However, Joanna is focusing on the advantages of her return.
Sincere gratitude for the vacation at the busiest season of the year. She thought, “It’s been a blessing to sit still, take in the beauty of my surroundings, and do nothing.”
She wished her fans a nice Christmas as she ended the message.
She shot back, “Wishing you and yours a nice Christmas week.” I hope you will be able to appreciate the wonder of the moment even when things might not go precisely as you had planned.
On the cover of PEOPLE last month, the Fixer Upper actress discussed how, as she grew older, she came to value spontaneity. Her son Crew and an inspiring tale are involved in one of those amazing serendipitous encounters.
As I was getting ready for work, he said, “Mom, I need you to get on your stomach, on the ground, and look at what these ants are carrying.” Telling PEOPLE, Joanna. “Honey, I can see them from up here,” I said.
Joanna, who is married to Chip and has a granddaughter, Emmie, 12, a daughter, Ella, 16, and a son, Duke, 14, along with daughters, Crew, 16, and Ella, 17, with him, made the decision to think about it more.
She went on, “I always think I’m too old for this while I’m lying on my stomach. Then Chip arrives with the children and begins to scream and yell, “Are you okay?!” Because that’s not how Mom usually acts, everyone assumed I had fallen.
Joanna was happy to spend the time with her child even if it was “simple and foolish.” I now understand that pleasant accidents might happen to you. I’m happy I observed that. She said.
