In our culture, adult men don’t cry all that frequently. Even though there are numerous instances when men and women are treated differently, I think this is possibly the most distressing. After all, it’s okay to cry occasionally without being condemned. Hey, sometimes even big, lumbering talk show hosts need to let it out!
The Steve Harvey crew felt it would be a wonderful idea to give the beloved celebrity a very special birthday surprise. Despite Steve’s declaration at the start of the film that he doesn’t want any surprises during his open celebration, it is clear that his coworkers were unable to hold back.
The birthday kid doesn’t appear very delighted with the abrupt break in his presentation, let’s face it. He reluctantly starts to read the cryptic words off the teleprompter while calling in over satellite from Orlando. Find out who it is now.
Steve pauses for a brief second when he hears the word “Orlando.” It is clear that he is beginning to build an opinion on who this somebody could be. The normally collected talk show host, however, breaks down in tears as soon as this guest’s face comes on the screen in front of him.
The individual on the screen, who is staring into the camera, extends a kind hello to Steve. “Hello, this is Rich Liss from Orlando, Florida. I called you to wish you a happy birthday,” the man replies.
Steve is so stunned by the unexpected guest that he can scarcely turn his head back to the TV. Finally, the host is able to say, “Hello, dude. I adore you, man.
The emotion is so strong that it’s tough to look away, despite the awkwardness of the moment. Soon later, when the camera pans out, a woman can be seen standing by Rich’s side. Steve immediately recognizes Becky as Rich’s wife.
Then, who are Rich and Becky Liss in the eyes of this perceptive talk show host? It turns out that the three have quite a history.
You see, before Steve rose to fame as a comedian, he was working in Cleveland and supported himself by cleaning carpets. The Lisses gave him his first contract and even a loan when he initially started trying his hand at being a performer.
When Steve meets these two for the first time in a long time, he wants to treat them as best he can, and wow is it fantastic!
