Julia Stiles, who was once among Hollywood’s most well-known performers, has acknowledged that it’s possible she won’t be recognized in the business for a long time.
Hollywood’s mainstream has shunned actress Julia Stiles since the 1999 hit film 10 Things I Hate About You.
The high school romantic comedy, which was partially inspired on The Taming of the Shrew, made celebrities out of Stiles, Heath Ledger, and even Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Following that, Ledger worked on The Dark Knight, which was to be his last film before he unexpectedly died in 2008. Conversely, Stiles seemed to be slipping in the eyes of Hollywood.
When Julie Stiles initially rose to fame in 2000, fans expected her career to take off. She starred in four additional movies in 2001, including a stint as host of Saturday Night Live, and three more movies in 2000. Stiles, on the other hand, never achieved the same level of fame as Ledger. Was it Stiles’ decision to quit starring in high-profile films, or did mainstream Hollywood just lose interest?
Julia Stiles was the “it” actress once upon a time. But after a run of box office failures and a move to Broadway, Julia didn’t seem to be making as many high-profile appearances as she used to. Despite her attempts to regain her reputation in Hollywood, Stiles was no longer popular with filmmakers and took a sabbatical from performing to have a child. After giving birth to her first child, Strummer Cook, Julia was cast in the lead role on the hit show Riviera. Julia swiftly returned to her routine and was cast in Jennifer Lopez’s Hustlers and The God Committee.
February 20, 2022 revision: Julia Stiles said that her second kid, Arlo, will be arriving in the start of 2022. She had announced her first pregnancy just a few months prior, when walking the red carpet at the Humans movie premiere. It goes without saying that Stiles will take a hiatus from acting to heal from giving birth and to spend time with her family, but her absence won’t be long. After giving birth to her first child, the actress told People, “Having my attention focused on my baby has made me a better performer because I don’t return home every night thinking on every small scene.” Even while Stiles probably won’t be rushing back to work anytime soon, fans can be sure that she has no intention of giving up her lucrative acting profession anytime soon.
an update on April 13, 2022: For the past several months, Julia Stiles and Preston Cook have been parenting their kids, Arlo, who is a newborn, and Strummer, who is four years old. Together, the pair is still really content. Stiles has taken a hiatus from performing, but she hasn’t stopped spending time with her family.
Her next project will be Orphan: First Kill, a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2009 horror thriller Orphan. She is now seen in the DreamWorks animated picture Dragons: The Nine Realms, lending her voice as Olivia Kullersen. Thus, despite her increased efforts to stay out of the spotlight and the decisions she regrets making from her early career, it is clear that Stiles does not regret choosing to pursue her profession as an actor.
Following 10 Things I Hate About You, Stiles starred in films like A Guy Thing starring Jason Lee, Down to You starring Freddy Prinze Jr., and Save the Last Dance starring Kerry Washington and Sean Patrick Thomas.
Save the Last Dance performed well at the box office despite Stiles’ other 2000s films doing badly. Rotten Tomatoes reports that Down to You’s “bland, by-the-numbers narrative” and “terrible script” garnered bad reviews. The box office bust A Guy Thing was unable to recover its costs of production.
Stiles gained more notoriety from the Jason Bourne films, but her depiction of Nicky was inadequate to help her regain her place in the Hollywood elite. Thus, beginning in 2003, Stiles went on to work on a number of non-traditional projects.
In the British television series Riviera, which aired on Sky Atlantic, Stiles was paired as Georgina Clios following her one and only appearance in Jason Bourne in 2016. Because to its immense popularity, the show had its premiere on the American channel Ovation in 2019.
Despite Riviera’s lack of popularity in the US, many fans believe the program would draw more viewers if it were offered on more streaming sites. It does, however, have a substantial fan base in the UK and was named by iNews UK as one of “the greatest TV drama series to watch in Autumn 2020.”
Stiles also secured a part in the 2019 movie Hustlers, which stars Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Jennifer Lopez, and Constance Wu.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stiles asked director Lorene Scafaria for an opportunity to be involved in the film in any capacity. Consequently, Stiles was afforded the opportunity to play journalist Elizabeth, a role he did not take lightly.
