Has anyone here seen “The Partridge Family”? If you were a fan, Susan Dey’s portrayal of Laurie Partridge’s attractiveness certainly enchanted you.
Susan had no acting experience when she was offered the part in the ABC series, which ran for four years from 1970 to 1974, but it was the ideal choice to cast her since she was tremendously skilled and at comfortable in front of the camera.
The singing family performed in front of enormous crowds while traveling from venue to venue aboard a converted psychedelic school bus. When it was finished in the US, it was also a tremendous smash there, and the cast became quite well-known.
Susan’s coworker David Cassidy, who played Keith in the program, immediately won the hearts of many young girls. Susan was one of the women that was fixated on him. They didn’t start dating until the program was through, despite the fact that she had had a crush on him for a time.
Their romance didn’t last for very long, and they remained great friends until David wrote his book, C’mon, Get Happy: Fear and Loathing on the Partridge Family Bus, in which he extensively discussed his relationship with Susan. He said, among other things, that she was too naive for him and that’s why they broke up.
Susan was enraged by that. Years later, she promised herself she would never speak to him again, so she declined to attend a cast reunion.
Since her appearance in “The Partridge Family,” Susan has been in a variety of films and television programs. The book Susan Dey’s Secrets on Boys, Beauty, and Popularity is another one of her works.
She was nominated for six Golden Globes and three Emmys before winning the Best Actress Golden Globe for her performance as Grace Van Owen in “LA Law.”
Olivia Newton-John, who portrayed Sandy in the movie Grease, was given the opportunity to play Laurie in “The Partridge Family,” but her managers apparently encouraged her not to. Worldation.com claims that Susan declined the part of Sandy in Grease.
Susan enjoys a calm life in New York, where she was reared, with her husband and their family. Although she is no longer the center of attention, she will always be remembered as someone who contributed to the uniqueness of our youth. No matter how long it’s been since “The Partridge Family,” nobody ever forgets it.
