USA Today said that 29-year-old Courtney Fannon was discovered unconscious in her classroom on Friday. At the small rural village of Kendal Central School, located around thirty miles northwest of Rochester, she taught special education students.
The news source claimed that she texted her husband Kurtis shortly before passing out, but they did not specify the subject of the communication.
There was no evidence of the cause of death.
Her husband’s buddy Matt Smith created a GoFundMe page for the family. “Long before any of us were ready to live in a world without them, the world lost two beautiful souls, Courtney Fannon and Hadley Jaye Fannon,” the statement stated.
“After a very tragic and unexpected turn of events, they were called to eternal rest the night of March 8th,” he wrote in the account, which had about $53,000 in it as of Thursday morning.
Fannon had been a special education teacher in the district since 2018.
Schools Superintendent Nicholas Picardo sent out a letter that said, “Every day, Courttney was a special education teacher who loved her job and gave her all,” according to USA Today.
She was an excellent teacher who enjoyed her job. He added that she was often grinning and saying hi to everyone as she strolled through our hallways when she wasn’t in the classroom.
Kurtis is experiencing the “worst nightmare of having to return to a home, filled with baby toys, bottles, furniture, and a finished nursery, that will no longer be filled with the cooing sounds and shuffling of a newborn,” according to Smith, who detailed Kurtis’ situation in a lengthy post on GoFundMe.
They dated for ten years before getting married in August of 2022. Fannon said that she will give birth “in just 4 short weeks.”
“There are only positive and good things that can be said about Courtney,” Smith said, “for those who did not have the wonderful chance to meet or get to know her.”
He added, “She changed the lives of her caregivers and her students for the better. She was kind, honest, and well-organized in a way that put her students ahead of herself.”
Smith also addressed the newborn girl in his homage.
I know that you will live on in everything your family does to make sure that the few breaths you were able to breathe were not wasted and will not be forgotten, he wrote. Hadley, we never got to meet you, see you grow up, or see you achieve amazing things.
“With your mom’s help, I’m sure you’ll be ready to send messages and signals that you are there, just like your mom would be ready for anything,” Smith wrote. “Someone that young shouldn’t have to watch over their father.”
“It gives me comfort to know that you weren’t alone and that your loving mother will always be there for you, Hadley, to the sweet little girl who never got to live in this world,” he stated.
On Saturday at 11 a.m., the funeral Mass for Courtney and Hadley will take place at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Churchville.
