Lord Robert Fellowes, the uncle of Princes William and Harry, has passed away. His age was eighty-two.
Lord Robert served as the late Queen’s private secretary from 1990 until 1999, despite not being related to Princess Diana.
He supported the Queen during her “annus horribilis” in 1992, a period of great difficulties for the royal family.
Windsor Castle was destroyed by fire in the same year that Prince Charles and Diana got into a quarrel, Prince Andrew ended his relationship with Sarah Ferguson, and Princess Anne got divorced.
Later, Mohammed al Fayed, the owner of Harrods, made some odd statements regarding Lord Robert. He denied any involvement in Diana’s 1997 vehicle accident.

In 1941, Robert Fellowes was born in Norfolk at Sandringham House, despite the ongoing Second World War.
His education was at Eton College, and in 1960 he was commissioned as a short-term member of the Scots Guards.
In 1963, he began his career as a banker when he joined the ranks of discount brokers and bankers Allen Harvey and Ross Ltd.
In 1978, Lord Robert and Lady Jane Fellowes were married in Westminster Abbey.
Diana Spencer, Princess Diana’s sister, was a bridesmaid at the nuptials.
Fellowes began working for the Royal Household as an assistant private secretary in 1977.
Over the course of his 20 years in the industry, he advanced from private secretary to deputy in 1986 and private secretary in 1990.
Before Robin Janvrin assumed the position in 1999, Lord Robert held it for nine years.
He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Version of the Royal Household Long and Faithful Service Medal in 1997, following twenty years of service to the Royal Family.

Up to her passing in September 2022, he also functioned as the late Queen’s backup horse.
Lady Jane became a Baroness once Robert’s term ended and he was appointed a Baron.
On October 26, 1999, he was presented to the House of Lords for the first time.
Eleanor Ruth Fellowes, Alexander Robert Fellowes, and Laura Jane Fellowes were their three children.
After Diana’s tragic death in 1997, Fellowes said to The Telegraph, “I was very fond of her.” She was a really kind individual.
“I feel horrible for people who are in that situation, and it was difficult for her to be happy.”
