Renowned comedian and composer Tom Smothers has died.
A statement sent by Tom’s family announced the comedian’s death, stating that the 86-year-old died after fighting cancer.
Dick Smothers stated to the National Comedy Center that Tom was not just a caring elder brother that everyone would desire in their lives, but also a unique creative collaborator.
I am eternally thankful to have shared a lifetime with him, both on and off stage, for more than 60 years. Our relationship was similar to a successful marriage — the longer we were together, the more we grew to love and appreciate each other. We were really fortunate.
Tom was a member of the comic duo known as the Smothers Brothers. His younger sibling, Dick, comprised the remaining portion. They were most famous for their “Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.”
We feel deep sadness for the Smothers family.
