She paused and made a hint about the adoption before the big revelation.

Melvin briefly mentioned Kotb’s nearly two-week absence as well as Savannah Guthrie’s unexpected exit from Tuesday’s show (she tested positive for COVID).

“We saw that Hoda and Savannah are both absent. Following yesterday’s positive COVID test, Savannah is now at home. We are wishing our friend a speedy recovery,” he stated.
