Reports state that Polish police are refuting a young woman’s claims of potentially being Madeleine McCann.

When Julia Wendell, sometimes referred to as Julia Faustyna or Julia Wendlet, shared videos on social media this week asserting to be the three-year-old who disappeared in 2007 while on a trip with her British family in Portugal, she received significant media coverage.

Wendell mostly emphasized the physical resemblance between McCann and himself, specifically focusing on McCann’s unusual eye condition that Wendell claimed to possess. A coloboma abnormality in McCann’s right eye was utilized as a crucial identification after she disappeared. (A coloboma is a defect in the eye’s structure that often causes an apparent tear or hole.)

A basic, along with other moles and freckles, were also noted as sharing commonalities.

However, as per a translation verified by Global News, Piotr Noga from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wroclaw stated to Polish magazine Gazeta at the end of last week that they had dismissed the possibility of a connection.

While unable to clarify the process behind their findings, they mentioned that their study is still under progress.

Wendell, who claims to be mentally stable, has expressed uncertainty about her identity and a lack of early recollections.

“I can’t recall much of my childhood, but my first vivid memory is about vacations in a warm location with a beach and buildings that were either white or very light in color, possibly apartments,” Wendell shared in an Instagram post from her account, @iammadeleinemccan.
Wendell’s family reacted by releasing a statement last week in which they expressed their deep distress about the accusations and the subsequent worldwide media coverage.

In a message shared on the “Lost Years Ago” Facebook page, they stated that it was evident that Julia is not Maddie. They also mentioned that their daughter had received therapy from medical professionals in the past, but it could have just stopped.

She declines medical treatment and occasionally misses dosages of her meds. We are really saddened by the current situation.

Wendell said last week that Kate and Gerry McCann had agreed to a DNA test, but a family spokesman would to confirm the assertion to Fox News Digital.

As per a statement provided to Fox by a spokesperson of the Official Find Madeleine Campaign, Gerry and Kate are refraining from making any comments or granting interviews until specifically invited by The Metropolitan Police, due to an ongoing police investigation.

Madeleine would be 19 if she were alive. She is 21 years old, but she believes her age may not be precise.

The discussion on Wendell’s words has been quite polarizing. Many people are encouraging the Metropolitan Police in London to investigate Wendell’s allegations, while others are accusing Wendell of being a deceitful scammer.

Three-year-old Madeleine was on a trip with her parents when she disappeared from a hotel room in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007. During the evening Madeleine disappeared, her parents went out to have supper with friends at a tapas bar close by, but Madeleine and her two siblings stayed in bed.

Her vanishing triggered a countrywide hunt and resulted in a media uproar worldwide.

Authorities from Portugal, England, and Germany have been collaborating for almost a decade to locate McCann and the person who abducted her.

German authorities stated that “additional evidence” connected German citizen Christian Brückner to the killing of McCann in the previous year. Although Brückner is a recognized rapist, he has not yet faced charges in relation to this crime. Between 1995 and 2007, he lived in the Praia da Luz area.

Brückner received a seven-year jail sentence for sexually assaulting a 72-year-old woman in 2005 in the same region where Madeleine disappeared. He was also convicted of drug-related crimes.

When Madeleine’s parents were implicated in the McCann case in 2007, an official suspect had not yet been assigned. In 2008, it was discovered that they were not guilty.

German police said in June 2020 that Madeleine is believed to be deceased, but British officials continue to see her absence as a case of a missing person.
