Oprah Winfrey is paying tribute to the late Tina Turner.
After learning of Turner’s departure on Wednesday, Winfrey, 69, posted a carousel of pictures of herself and Turner having fun throughout the years on Instagram.
“I started out as a fan of Tina Turner, then a full-on groupie, following her from show to show around the country, and then, eventually, we became real friends,” she wrote as the description for the picture. She is the goddess of rock ‘n’ roll for all time. She possessed an enormous amount of inner power, which expanded throughout her life.
She went on to say that Turner was “a role model not only for me but for the world” and “encouraged a part of me I didn’t know existed.”
The “What’s Love Got to Do with It” singer provided the TV host the courage to live boldly, the host said.
Her life “became a clarion call for triumph once she claimed her freedom from years of domestic abuse,” she added. I admire her guts in wearing a leather miniskirt and Manolo shoes to show the world what success looks like.
She once said to me that she would not be terrified when it was her time to depart this world, but rather enthusiastic and intrigued. Because she had learned how to LIVE while being supported by her loving husband Erwin and friends.
Winfrey thanked her life for its influence on her, adding it had helped her become “a better woman, a better human.” She was the best, in fact.
In a later tweet, Winfrey included a video of her and Turner dancing on stage and singing “The Best” together.
“I got the chance to accompany Tina onstage on her ‘Wildest Dreams’ tour and felt a peek of her beautiful universe,” she said as the caption for the video. My knees began to knock against one another from my anxiety. The time I spent dancing on stage with her in Los Angeles was the most delightful experience I can remember having outside of my comfort zone.
“Tina encouraged me and every woman to do the same,” she remarked. She was an unconventional person.
In 2005, Winfrey discussed witnessing Turner perform with O, The Oprah Magazine.
“Watching Tina perform is what I call a spiritual experience,” she remarked at the time. With each exhilarating swing of her miniskirt and each slide of her three-inch Manolos across the stage, she exudes the message, “I am here.” I was successful. I’m not going to break down.
She stated, “When I leave a Tina performance, I feel the same way I do when I witness any great art: I want to be a better human being.
The renowned singer passed away on Wednesday at the age of 83 at her home in Switzerland’s Zurich area, according her staff, following a lengthy illness.
A note on Turner’s Instagram said, “With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow.” We said a good friend farewell today, leaving behind her greatest gift to humanity: her music. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. Tina, you will be sorely missed.
