The 13th year has passed since the momentous birth of octuplets that made headlines throughout the world on January 26, 2022. In 2009, a cesarean section produced six boys and two girls in the United States made news throughout the globe on this day.
At the age of 34, their mother, Nadia Suleman, had already given birth to six more children, for a total of 14 children that she had conceived alone using in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Suleman claimed to have been misinformed about her fertility doctor’s technique, which involved implanting 12 embryos and resulting in several pregnancies. Due to ethical transgressions, her doctor’s medical license was revoked as a result of this occurrence, and tighter laws governing IVF procedures were implemented in the US.
Suleman, who the media dubbed “Octomom,” was praised and criticized at the same time. While she did dabble in reality television and other media endeavors to support her family, she maintains that her choice to have additional children was motivated by love rather than a desire for fame or money.
The Suleman family currently enjoys a humble but secure life. Nadia is a frequent social media user who promotes a healthy, vegan diet and frequently posts updates about her octuplets.
In spite of the obstacles, the family presents a happy and cohesive picture.
