Among all the advantages that the internet provides, life-hacks—tricks, hints, and wisdoms that may otherwise be lost to time—are my particular favorites.
Unlike the good old days when we had to rely on our parents and grandparents to tell us about strange tricks that could come in handy around the house, we have an infinite resource at our disposal now. Every day, helpful information is made available online; if you know where to look, you may find a lot of it.
Fortunately, you presumably already know where to search (by association) as we do. We just learned about a home hack that was previously unknown to us. If this has caught your interest, read on since it involves toilet paper and your refrigerator, which we realize is an odd combination.
It will take you far too long to remember to give your refrigerator a thorough cleaning if you’re anything like me. Every time I open my refrigerator door after being gone for a few days, I smell something bad emanating from it or notice sticky spots where I neglected to wipe up after spilling something.
This is the reason I laughed aloud to myself when I saw a certain life advice that has recently been circulating the internet.
Now, I’m sure I’m not the only one who opens the refrigerator and sometimes notices a musty odor. Usually, the refrigerator is to fault for this rather than the food that just so happens to be inside.
Toilet paper is an easy problem to solve, despite appearances to the contrary.
Although it might not seem obvious, putting a roll of toilet paper in the refrigerator is supposed to have great odor-removing properties due of its absorbent nature—it’s essentially designed to soak up moisture.
To put it simply, the refrigerator smells nicer when a roll of toilet paper is placed inside it, creating a trap for any excess moisture and odorous particles.
You also have an extra plus since, well, a roll of toilet paper is significantly less expensive than home cleaning supplies!
Now that you know, you should be aware of what’s happening if you ever witness your partner putting toilet paper in the refrigerator.
