We need your prayers for Chip and Jo.

Joanna Gaines is recuperating at home following an unplanned back surgery.

The 44-year-old Magnolia Network personality revealed on Thursday that she had undergone surgery just two weeks prior to manage a serious back ailment. Following a snuggle with her 4-year-old son Crew, she posted a candid selfie of herself offering the peace sign while laying in bed in the hospital on Instagram.

“I hurt my back in high school cheering, basically a basket toss turned into back injury and I’ve been dealing with it ever since,” she said in the caption of an Instagram photo.

She had a microdiscectomy treatment soon after she began dating her husband Chip in 2001, thus their second date had to be postponed. She stated that the identical procedure had been performed “two weeks earlier on another disc.” Because my back likes to flare up at the most inconvenient times, as I’ve always jokingly stated, the timing of everything with the Christmas season was a bit concerning.

Joanna, though, is focusing on the advantages of her comeback.

Thank you for the respite during the busiest season of the year. The ability to do nothing except sit quietly, take in the beauty of my surroundings, and watch has been a godsend, she thought.

She wished her fans a nice vacation as she posted its conclusion.

She responded, “Wishing you and yours a nice Christmas week.” I hope that even if things don’t go precisely as you had planned, you will be able to appreciate the marvel of the here and now.

On the cover of PEOPLE last month, the Fixer Upper actress discussed how growing older taught her to value spontaneity. Her son Crew and a touching tale are part of one of those great, accidental encounters.

I was getting ready for work when he said, “Mom, I need you to get on your stomach, on the ground, and look at what these ants are carrying.” Joanna spoke with PEOPLE. “Honey, I can see them from up here,” I said.

Joanna, who is married to Chip and has a granddaughter, Emmie, 12, a son, Drake, 17, a daughter, Ella, 16, and boys, Duke, 14, and daughters, Ella, 16, and Crew, with him, thought about the situation some more.

“When I’m lying on my stomach, I keep thinking, I’m too old for this,” she said. Then Chip appears with the children and begins to honk while shouting, “Are you okay!?” Everyone assumed I had fallen because Mom doesn’t usually act that way.

Despite the fact that it was “simple and foolish,” Joanna was happy to spend that time with her son. “I’ve realized that pleasant things might come around unexpectedly. I’m happy I caught that. She spoke.
