Supporters of Miranda Lambert are divided after the country singer faced backlash for getting into a physical brawl on July 15 while performing at her residency in Las Vegas.
Lambert assured Vulture that she would take into account the audience’s preferences while choosing the set list for her months-long show.
I learned that part of this Vegas act is, ‘Give the people what they want,’ she told the magazine. They go since they’ve been fans for a while and because it is a common stop for them. I’m sure there are certain songs in the set that I’ve heard too many times.
But owing to the actions of certain concertgoers, Lambert grew irritated in the middle of one of her most well-known songs.
Miranda Lambert warned audience members against snapping selfies.
On July 15, Miranda Lambert abruptly ended her show to reprimand a crowd for snapping selfies while she was performing a particularly emotional song.
In the TikTok video, the country singer can be heard singing her tearjerking 2017 hit, “Tin Man,” which has lyrics warning the Tin Man from “The Wizard of Oz” about the dangers of having a heart. After singing the first few lines, Lambert declares, “I’m gonna stop right here for a sec,” as though he had recognized the wrongdoers in the audience.
The performer said into the microphone, pointing at the women, “These girls are worried about their selfies and not listening to the song.” It kind of grates on my nerves.
Lambert attempted to concentrate the crowd by repeating the song, but the mob was still enraged. People exiting the movie theater may be seen in the footage. “Let’s go!” a delighted audience member yelled. You don’t treat your followers that way, she said.
Following the event, some concertgoers rallied behind Lambert, while others defended the country singer online due to the emotional nature of the song.
However, some people refused to be convinced. “To have an unforgettable experience, attend a concert. One person remarked that someone should be allowed to take a snapshot to capture the moment.
Another said, “Gurl, at least they didn’t throw the phone at you for this,” during the current rash of rowdy crowds. Lambert’s wrath definitely had a bigger detrimental influence on the show than anyone taking a picture.
But in the wake of the selfie incident, a number of admirers have expressed their ire on social media, and others have even questioned their very existence. A (former?) fan commented on Lambert’s Instagram backstage video, “Just got a refund on my tickets.” “After seeing how you handled those females, I’m not going to see you again. They paid for those tickets themselves. Ouch.
Miranda Lambert’s song “Tin Man” doesn’t appear to be the kind to get people talking. Perhaps during the break, spectators were snapping pictures? Since the song “Tin Man” was released in 2016 on Lambert’s album “The Weight of These Wings,” many have theorized that Lambert’s 2015 divorce from fellow country musician Blake Shelton was the song’s source of inspiration.
The “Hell on Heels” singer stated that the album was a “diary of the last couple years” of her life in a 2017 interview with Taste of Country, although she hasn’t specified the exact roots of the song.
What most affected you at any given period in your life, Lambert stated in an interview with Sounds Like Nashville in 2017: “Whatever influences you most, at whatever time in your life, comes out somewhere or another in your art.”
The singer sang “Tin Man” acoustically at the 2017 Academy of Country Music Awards; Kelly Clarkson covered it for her 2019 tour. Will the #selfiegate controversy be a part of “Tin Man’s” legacy?
